    Hello scrap heads

Hello scrap world, I am officerscrappy from NC. I am a small time scrapper with big time dreams...(LOL) I really enjoy scrapping more than my current job! (corrections officer) I have a couple questions. First let me tell you my method of scrapping and you guys (and gals) can tell me why thats all wrong. I start out early in the morning on my off days with my box empty (bed of my ford ranger) and I troll around neighborhoods that have trash days. my goal is to be at least 45min ahead of the trash truck so I can get all of the treasures before they are destroyed. Now doing this just off of this method alone always yeilds at least 28 to 53 dollars. Maybe that does not sound like a lot but its good money to buy the kids pizza and used video games which they love. My question is really how can I increase my take at the scrap yard? I mean I am now pulling out motors out of treadmills and vaccums. I am cuttting cords off of everything I can but still can not seem to break 100 bucks. I am not greedy by any means but it would be thrilling to cash out big just once...

welcome to the forum: trash day cruising is a good place to start, while you find or learn your nich. my only suggestion is you might want to start earlier. Some even start at midnight or earlier. might be able to double your take.

Like was just said, flyers and do-it-yourself business cards got us started with calls on a daily basis, even our 2nd year we're still getting calls from the first go-around. The first time we were doing haul-off's from left over yard sales, and wow did we get some good stuff.
