    Hello from Diamond Bar, CA

    Hi all, there isn't much to my introduction. I am 18 years old and am very new to the scrap metal industry. The reason why i am here is because my family has had a 20 gallon dual head air compressor sitting in the garage for the past couple years and i'd like to think that it's worth something except i don't know where to take it and i am also afraid we may get "scammed". I have never recycled scrap metal before and i registered here to hopefully gain another skill set within this industry. Also looking forward to meeting new people.

    Welcome to the forum. If the air compressor works or is easily repairable then its worth far more that way than as scrap. Mostly the weight comes from the steel in the tanks and steel is less than $0.10/lb. So I don't think you found a pile of money in the garage. More can be made by seperating the different metals. I suggest you read the sticky threads to begin and then work from there. There is a serious education available for free by just reading the old threads.

    Also call the local scrap yards and ask about selling the compressor whole and what the price for steel is. Mike.

    The yards probably are going to want the tanks cut open or in half before they'll take them.
    If you know what's wrong with it you might have a lot better luck selling it on CraigsList. A lot of backyard mechanic's out there, even Jay Lenno. lol

    Welcome to the forum from Indiana...As mentioned, see if the compressor runs or is repairable, as it's worth more that way than as scrap.
