When you look at it as a hobby or part time job it is a lot of fun. When it becomes a full time job and your only means of paying the bills and putting food on the table for both you and your employees there are a lot of headaches involve. There have been many times I have asked my self why I got into this, but just as many times I'm glad I did.
All depends on your work ethics and ability to deal with stress. Everyone is different so that's a question you need to ask yourself. There is plenty of money to be made but there is also a lot of hard work involved.
Welcome to the forum first off and secondly if your wondering if scrapping full time can be "good" well put on your big boy pants cause it can get pretty bumpy. I scrap part time, but when I use to work seasonal jobs I was full time scrapping in the off season and it's nothing short of difficult, don't get me wrong it's get it's perks but ain't easy either. Got bunch of fair weather scrappers running around paying more than the yard will give, sellers who are difficult and moody, gas and expenses, good old mother nature raining you out and to top it all off brake downs and equipment failures. Takes a serious amount of operating capital to survive in this game, good times will fill your pockets but lean times will empty em twice as quick. Anyhow that my 2 cents worth
Alvord iron and salvage
3rd generation scrapper and dam proud of it
Welcome but it is a headache I've always been a full time scrapper when I was using buckets and shovels to now relying on contracts when I was in the shovel and bucket I had 1 employee now I'm looking at 10 employees and expanding to the point its too fast and now I'm hiring 30. My best bet that made me money was getting started in the government liquidation auction its work and there are requirements but its my main source of income
