Hello! I'm glad I found you.

I am a farm raised Hoosier who has spent the last 40 years making furniture with the exception of four years working for a small local computer company. I was taking part-time classes at a local extension of Vincennes University when my professor found out I was doing much more with a "toy" computer than his customers were with the best IBM had to offer at the time (1988). It got me a job (Service Manager) but cost me my degree in the long run. They say you should never work for family. I wouldn't recommend working for your professor either. When I left the company because of a disagreement about ethics, it made my degree impossible to complete... (I believe honesty comes first) There is an old German saying that roughly translates, "Too soon old, too late smart". I just turned 60 and I'm still learning new things.

I've been doing computer repair and maintenance for friends and family for years. We have one room in the house that I refer to as "That Black Hole We Call Storage". There are many, many add-on boards and such that are in their original boxes with the manuals and driver software that are technically obsolete. I've been researching recovery methods since I've been off work due to physical problems (June of this year). Just fount SMF this morning and after reading, some of the posts, I feel like I've found the community I've been looking for.

I look forward to getting to know you and becoming educated on scrapping. If I wind up not being able to go back to work, this just might end up keeping me from driving my wife nuts... [grin]

Welcome to the forum. Like you, I stumbled on this site awhile ago and just loved the amount of information and great interaction with the folks here. Lots of people are willing to share, some more willingly than others, but all are part of the community. Just like family we have the close brothers, red-headed step children, favorite uncle, grumpy old guys and loony cousins. Hope you find all you are looking for and also feel free to share so others can learn from your experiences!

Welcome to the forum. You are doing the one thing I highly recommend which is to read the old threads. Doing the reading will educate you in areas you are currently unaware that can make you money and add opportunities. Best of luck, Mike.

p.s. I graduated from Vincennes University in 1973, the experience was worth far more than the degree. Its never too late to return to school if thats what you desire. Mike.

welcome we are glad you found us too.

research your parts that are in boxes with paperwork on ebay. some "obsolete parts are "collectable" search sold listings so you will see what people payed, not how much was wanted.

for the other stuff, read some threads in the buyers page, talk to a few, then pick one and ask how to separate and package them for shipping. some of the buyers can even get discounts on shipping.

There are a lot of great people on here, and a lot of good info already posted.
