Hi,
I've been lurking for a while, so I ought to introduce myself.
I live in Omaha, Nebraska. Got into scraping maybe 3 months ago after watching the Bigger Hammer on YouTube. That guy is entertaining to watch.
Started picking up free Craigslist stuff, dumpster diving, etc. Actually started flipping free items from Craigslist for a while and made some decent money at it, but got tired of having to always watch and respond so quickly to get stuff.
I did, however, pick up 17 free old computer towers that way. So I needed to figure out how to make money off of them and found out that it is rather profitable. So I have moved to only picking up computer towers lately. Been buying them one at a time and on auctions. I have a good number of connections so far from just hitting the pavement.
I'm getting big enough that the local scrap yard talked with me about upping what they pay me after I dropped off 600 lbs of power supplies, which filled up a whole gaylord almost. They want all the motherboards that used to be connected with those power supplies, but they really can't compete with a local guy in the area. Or at least they don't want to. Their prices on RAM and processors are a joke, no way they can compete with buyers on here. I took in some gold finger cards and they said they didn't know what they were and offered me a little over $2 a lb for them. Although I did get their high grade motherboard rate on 30lbs of gold connectors once, so that was nice.
I'm surprised how much money there is in
eWaste. I just wanted a hobby that helped pay for my beer brewing habit. But I haven't brewed any beer in 3 months now. Hard to keep up. I've also gotten into refurbishing the better computers I pick up. Lots more money here, but lots more work as well. I've always been computer geeky, so there hasn't been much of a learning curve. But I have learned a bunch from you all on here. So thanks.
I would have introduced myself lots earlier, but have noticed that you guys are rather harsh on this forum at times, much more so than the many other forums I am on. I'm sure Mechanic688, et al., will gently guide me to proper SMF etiquette.
So thanks for what I have learned so far. I hope to contribute to the forum in a meaningful way.
