    Jimintoronto, new member,

    Hello everyone, Jimintoronto here.

I`m a retired Canadian Forces military Police investigator.

I live in Toronto, and have been doing a small scale scrap business, for a couple of years now. I have found that this city has some unique opportunities, and plenty of scope for expansion.

My usual items are a mix of the usual metal objects, and e scrap, depending on what I find. Using craigs list ads, i have been able to get enough materials to keep busy. My wife works at the University of Toronto, and that has been a good source of computers and wire. In the spring, the student housing provides a mix of furniture, computers, and TV`s, as well as some bikes and e scooters, that are broken, or crashed.

The city of Toronto has very strict laws about what can be had, from curb side collections. Stoves and fridges are fair picking, but you cannot take any cans or materials that are in designated recycling wheelly bins.

I have a small work space, in a industrial rental building, that is 10 fot by 10 foot, with electric, and 24 hour access. for $ 245 a month. I pick up with my car, and stock pile materials there, to be broken down, and sorted. I won`t pay for anything, get verything for free, either from craigs, or by word of mouth.

I have found that with wire, I can strip most of it using a dremel tool, with a bit. I fit the tool in a vise, and run the wire through, taking off the insulation off. I also strip out cpu`s, and boards.

If i find a stove or fridge, I call a friend that has a pick up with a hydraulic tail gate, and he tips me 10 or 20 depending on the number of items that I give him a month. We settle up at the end of the month. he also will call me if he finds computer items, or ac units, that I can carry in my car.

Being retired, I do this as I feel like it .

    Jim B.
