    Hello from Northern VA

    Hi everyone,

I have gotten interested in scrapping when I had to dispose of two refrigerators and the landfill wanted to charge me $45 each and the scrap yard paid me $15 each!!! I like beer money!!!

I just joined and have some items to dispose of and think that scrapping might be the best way. I am from the northern Virginia area. Yesterday I took a car to the scrap yard and didn't know about the value of the catylatic converter. Now I see it might have been worth a $100 or so. I joined so that I can get advice about the other items I have to scrap and not make another mistake like that.

Currently, I have a single axle fuel truck to dispose of that has an aluminum fuel tank on it(maybe 3000 gallons in size), a 60's era rubber tired loader (maybe 10-12 tons) and two tooltrailers with some old 4 inch pumps and a lot miscelaneous stuff like buckets of stainless steel bolts.

I am open to any advice to dispose of these items without getting to labor intensive.

I look forward to get to know other members and learn about recycling.

If this goes good maybe I will take it on as a hobby.

    Jaboo,

Nice to meet a fellow scrapper in my back yard (so to speak). I am in Manassas Park, right up the road from you.

For someone treating this like a "hobby", sounds like whatever your part time or full time job is, is definitely paying off big in scrap so far.

Feel free to email anytime (email is in my signature) if you have any questions, etc.

    Take care.

I would get with your local yards buyer and let them know what you have for scrap. If you have a way to take those heavy pieces into the yard then take it in yourself. Otherwise the yard may be able to come get the pieces for you.

I'm drooling reading your list... If you like taking things apart/ have a torch, I would find out what categories your local yards like metal to be divided into for the most profit or which scrap they prefer and then get to work. I work with three different yards where I live and have been blessed to build up good repore (sp?) with all of them to bring them the kinds of scrap they prefer to deal with.

If you don't want too much dirty work, pull off the really nice stuff to sell then get some bids from people who will pay you for it as is/ on location.
