    Hi from OKC

My name is Corey, from OKC. I am currently a beginner saving cans, stripping wire and picking up copper here and there. My main question is do the scrap yards ask where did u get you copper from? If its over a certain amount of weight? Such as I have a lot of wire that I have been stripping. Do you guys produce contractor license or apprentice license? I currently work a mechanical company so I think I can get around that. But what about the normal everyday scrappers?

You'll probly want to call your yard and ask. Might do well also to talk to a local scrapper to ask which yard is best around there.

Welcome from Searcy, Arkansas. When I carry copper, aluminum, or brass in I have to fill out a piece of paper and give them my license. Then they take a picture of what i brought in and of my license and they do a digital thumbprint scan. But they have never asked for anything to do with a contractors license. I'm not sure if this is just an Arkansas thing or everywhere. It is the same whether it is 5 pounds or 500 pounds. I am waiting for them to start wanting a drop of blood. Dang thieves make it hard on the honest man.

In California, there is a 3 day waiting period for your non-ferrous payment unless you have a business or contractor's license. There's some other stipulations about selling non-ferrous with CRV in small amounts, and also if you are a regular at the scrap yard. You can get paid that day as well. Not sure about the specifics on that though since I just give them my business license.

Welcome from Delaware. Lots of good information here. I love searching the archives! I've never been asked where my scrap came from and i deal with 4 different yards.

    Welcome to SMF

Most places require an Id and maybe even a photo. Some will also hold the check for a few days. Best thing I can say is ask the yard you plan on taking them to and just be honest in everything you do.
