I just found SMF today and I am wishing I had 2 years ago. It seems to be a great place for all kinds of people that are involved in the scrap metal industry to come together.
My father has always owned, in one form or another, a demolition company. But he has always made his money on the salvage of recyclable materials. I am glad to again be a part of the company as we head in a new direction in 2013.
My father thought of a great idea over 2 years ago and I am very excited to finally see it coming together. It seemed to him that although a lot of companies, contractors and everyday citizens take their scrap to a scrap yards, the same amount seem to throw these materials away because of space, time, means etc. What if there was a service that came to your location, weighed your material and paid you on the spot? That means no trips to the scrap yards. No wasting time or wasting employee time. You get the same amount of money as you would at the yard, without making the trip. We will be focusing mostly on copper wire/tubing, aluminum, brass etc. We are just starting out and I know it will be a tough road, as it has proven to be already but I strongly believe in this service that we are offering.
I am glad to become a member of SMF and I look forward to taking our membership to the next level as soon as possible. In the meantime I welcome any advice, encouragement, questions or answers from other members.
