    Question E-scrappin' in Connecticut

Hello everybody! I started collecting e-scrap about 3 months ago, mostly from friends, co-workers, craigslist, etc. I get enough stuff to keep me busy with dismantling and sorting. This saturday I loaded up all my clean/prepared steel and made my first run to the scrap yard. 380 lbs total with $38.00 made. I wanted to take only my steel so that I could become familiar with the yard before I brought anything of higher value. I had no idea of the procedures, so I weighed in and then was directed to the steel bin, which contained mostly unprepared items like entire washing machines, refrigerators, etc. Should I have been paid a higher price for the clean steel? If so, I'm not going to worry about it because this was a great learning experience. I've spent a lot of time on this forum and it has helped me out tremendously. Only thing is that I've searched this site and google but I can't find any ewaste buyers in Connecticut. Does anyone know of anybody?

Some yards will buy shred as "clean sheet" if it is free of plastic, ect. Or they buy it all at the same price if its dirty or clean.

washers and dryers and stuff have copper, aluminum, brass, etc that is recovered in the shredding process thats one reason its the same as "clean" metal
also its a lot of labor to keep people honest and sort clean and dirty tin.

you DO want to ask the yard about thier definition of short steel or heavy melt

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate your time. Unfortunately I did not see any CT buyers listed in the Buyers & Sellers section. Would any of you guys know of a buyer in CT that is not listed or someone I could ask about this? Next time I'll ask about clean sheet pricing. I'd also like to find a plastics recycler in CT that pays for ABS plastic.

your best bet is to ship your ewaste that's worth $2lb or more. Good luck on the plastic and crts, everyone is looking for buyers for that
