Check with your scrap yard about if they take things like air conditioners or microwaves. Up here, they charge to take anything with freon. And there is a HUGE fine for deliberately cutting a line to release freon into the air.

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
What about something like a DVD player? I was gonna just junk mine - these days, I either use a gaming system or my computer to watch anything, so the player just clutters my space. It's not too much material, but there's gotta be something there, no?
I've also got an old filing cabinet in the basement, do you think that could be worth taking there?
I can post some pictures of stuff, if you'd like, so you can give me a better idea. I really have no idea how much they're willing to take, but I assume most anything since it is called scrap.
