I wish I could scrap the Flacco contract. Greetings from MD/PA border :)

Hello all, I've been in the construction, home improvement, disaster restoration, whatever you want to call it industry for 10+ years, just now getting into scrapping. When I think about all the metals I've thrown away on job sites, yeah, I have no idea why I didn't look into this earlier! A friend of mine needed my truck to scrap some metals the other day and after seeing there's actually money in this I'm very eager to learn more. Just wanted to say hey, I come in peace, and am looking forward to the experience.

    hello & welcom

my advice would be to concentrate on ur construction business, if ur getting work regularly.
u could have a friend/family ember to handle the scrap for you & take a cut from it.

reason being, if u really want to make money from scrap, then its quite time consuming
u get many items that need to be cleaned/seperated

theres appliances & stuff with motors
u just cant take a whole fridge, stove, washing machine etc to the scrap yard or u will be losing money

and it takes a bit of time to break it down & seperate the different metals.

other than that- just read as much as you can & u will learn a LOT.

the straight steel/metal stuff- u can take it directly to the scrap yard- theres nothing to clean in them.

Welcome to the forums from a sandbar off the coast of NC.

Do both! Your job gives you the chances to get your hands on a lot of scrapping material.

Read the archives here, you'll find plenty of advice from the wise folks that have come before you. While I appreciate the work you guys do in the disaster field..I have to say, I'm glad when I don't see you all on my sandbar. Usually mean **** hit the fan an lots of damage. when we do see you. lol.

Good luck an be safe with the work your in.

Do you guys realize you're responding to a post from more than a year ago? The OP hasn't been back since the day he registered.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

The easy way to do both is make separate piles, one trash one metal, make sure that you have a couple of magnets with you you would be surprised who amounts of aluminum come out of demo jobs, what ever you do do not leave the metal pile over nite leave the trash for the next day if you can not haul away both.

Which way did he go? This thread reminds me of the Led Zeppelin song "Dazed and Confused". A song about a girlfriend, here is part of first verse -

Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Lot's of people talkin', Few of them know.

Like my girlfriend, my friends can be Sooo "Dazed and Confused".
