Hello From a brand new Alberta Scrapper

Hello to all the scrappers out there! i am from Alberta Canada. They don`t come any newer than me, I learned about metal scrapping by accident. I have my roots in being one of those guys who picked up the empty pop bottles/cans from my area. I started researching the ins and outs of metal scrapping online 2 days ago. Then today i took several big steps, I started scrapping the old xmas lights in my garage, and of course joined this Forum! My experience in this is suspect at best. Really prolly no idea what I'm doing, but thats the fun part, learning a new hobby. I quickly noticed in my garage all of those items that suddenly have cash value, xmas lights, cpu towers, old lawn chairs. So i removed all of the light bulbs, and now I'm trying to learn the next step!! To strip the wire completely or to just bring it in with the plastic cover. What got me excited was the roughly 300 ft of old xmas lights i had in storage, not sure what this will translate into as of yet, but I will find out soon enough. I am a very excited NOOB, any tips and hints would be appreciated too!! Until next time, happy scrappin' everyone

It's an adiction and the only tip I have for you right now is, don't strip the xmas light wire as you might actually lose money being on how fine the wire is... I would however snip off all the light sockets... some scrap yards don't like them... but you could always call your local yard and ask

Thanks Mechanic688, yes, I am busy reading through all the beginer material I can find on here, and there's alot! I don't think I can say it enough, I'm excited to be apart of this community. Destructo_d, Thanks alot! I appreciate the tip, and always nice to connect with other Canuck Scrappers! I will remove those light sockets. Hopefully next week I can have my first load ready to be brought to the yard. I will report back when that happens!!!!

Ask your yard before you waste time cutting off the sockets. Some yards have their own pricing for xmas lights, with bulbs and sockets. I know mine does. They're not worth a ton per pound throw em in a box until you have a good amount.
