Greetings fellow scrappers! I live in the south Fort Worth, area of Texas. I am just getting back into recycling after leaving in 2009 just after the metal/housing crash. Hopefully I can set things up so next time there is a down turn I can with stand the reduction of payouts.
Currently working with me is my oldest son and part-time my middle son(who worked with me full time 4 years ago) along with my youngest son that is going to collage part time.
We are just getting out name back in the business so we purchased 2000
business cards, 2000 flyers that we cut into 4 ads per page to make 8000 hand-outs and yards signs that we have left over from our previous efforts.
As for equipment we use a 16ft x 5ft single axle trailer that has metal sides about 4 ft high and metal flooring. A 1998 Ford F250 with a covered box that was used previously by a lawn care company. It was purchased for 1000.00$ (I sold my old scrap truck in 2011). The battery and starter had gone out so it was sold as non running. 200.00 and 45 minutes of work and we were in business with no problems so far. It has run like a champ since we purchased it a month ago.
We also have a DeWalt 18v circle saw and sawsall, bolt and wire cutters of differt sizes. Wire strippers from my previous efforts, and scale.
Suggestions for other items to add would be greatly appreciated.
We are really shot gunning our efforts right now since we don't really have a real focus. We have gotten some TVs, CRTs and started scrapping them which is not something I did in the past. Picking up items from garage sales have helped with a couple of them calling us back to pick up some other things like W/D, freezer, old motorcycle and fridge. So they are starting to pay off.
One of the ideas I'm looking into is smelting our own aluminum and copper but for now that is something that will need further research.
I am open to helping others anyway I can. If you can't get a load or need some other type of help message me and we can work something to help each other. I may need the same help in the future.
