    Could Platinum save my life?

Hello all, great to finally find a board such as this. Everyone looks helpful. I am currently working full time in a job I hate,...like most everyone else. I also operate a small business part time. Recently I have stumbled upon some great finds and have been getting paid for things (i.e. hundreds of feet of copper cabling) I once considered garbage. I may have an opportunity to start collecting medical waste platinum, just curious to see if anyone out there is familiar with this? thx

I guess it could save your life if you need a pace maker or stent.

There is actually a lot of noble metals used in the medical field, the problem is that for the most part it's considered medical waste, and must be disposed of accordingly.

Very true Scott. I have a freind that in a brain surgeon and I asked him for any Pt containing waste and he would come off any of it as it violates state and hospital policies on dealing with biohazard waste.

I do get some sensors that go on the caps and they are Au over Ag with no barrier metal so you can see how gold migrates into Ag.

Just have to look for NOS medical waste to scrap.

Thx for all the responses. To elaborate a little about my situation, I am a field service engineer (repair medical equipment) that allows me to have access in cardiac cath labs which use a lot of guide wires and stents containing platinum. I have been picking up a lot of copper cables and lead acid batteries which is easy for me as these items aren't contaminated and I am replacing them as part of field service work. The contaminated platinum items are within eyeshot but not part of my business. I have asked a couple of technicians if they have ever recycled old plat items. One site does already recycle their platinum. The other found it to be a hassle. I believe I have a service business opportunity in the making but I guess I'll need to research a bit more and try to pursue the right person(s) in each site.
