    Hello from Western PA

Hi, I've been scrapping in western PA since 2000 on a small scale, mostly aluminum cans and curbside finds. I have a walking paper route that has me out on trash day anyway, so I take an extra canvas newspaper bag and put any scrap in there. My three young sons love the scrapyard and the people who work there and they always take photos of the cars being dismantled, from the safety of our own car, of course.

Our neighborhood is blue collar but people still put out good appliances on the curb and there is the usual contingent of scrappers' pickups cruising through on trash day. I'm limited to what will fit in the trunk of my Ford Escort, but if I get into this more I may someday get a small tow-behind trailer.

Thank you already for all the advice you've offered in this forum. I've learned quite a lot and have a few ideas on earning more money, plus the safety advice is appreciated.

Edited to add: If anyone knows of anywhere to recycle miscellaneous large rigid plastics (computer shells, children's outdoor toys, etc.) in Pittsburgh or Beaver County, PLEASE let me know! Thanks.

Welcome but can't answer your question about the plastic. I was going to suggest about checking into
ewaste or escrap as an alternative being that your scrapping out of a smaller car.
You can add it to your normal scrapping and it pays good for no more room it takes up.

Welcome. I'm originally from Westmoreland County in a small farm town called Ruffs Dale. I agree with mechanic688 stick with ewaste. It'll net you better returns until you can get a truck. Post flyers on your neighbors door about taking any kind of ewaste. As far as plastics the best advice is google plastic recyclers in the area and see if they take small amounts of plastic and if they take plastic from ewaste. Best of luck to you.
