Hello from the midwest

Hello all, somewhat of a newbie to the forum and to scrapping.
I've been doing lots of browsing in the old forums and will continue to do so. I am amazed at all the info I have got and look forward to learning more.

My father was a hobby farmer and recently passed away. By the time of his passing, his 'hobby' grew to over a 1000 acre operation. His father and grandfather were hobby farmers as well and needless to say, after three generations of farming, there is a lot of scrap metal ranging from buckets of old bolts to discs and plows that are too small/obsolete to a couple of large grain augers that have blown over and are bent beyond use on a farm. I had planned on helping my mother clean up all the property but when she told me she was considering paying someone to clean up the old machinery and other scrap, I gently reminded her of the value the metal could bring. She told me that I could scrap it and keep the profits for my work in cleanup. I am relatively young (34) and in good physical condition, but needless to say, I am in over my head, especially in dealing with multiple tons of farm equipment in somewhat inaccessible locations. Fortunately, the farm still has tractors with front-end loaders and lots of trucks and trailers to make the process much easier and safer. I am in the process of moving from Detroit to Southeastern Illinois to clean up the mess.

My regular profession is a social worker and I have turned into somewhat of a city slicker, but I still have enough 'farm-boy common sense' that I hope will help me as I learn.

I look forward to continuing to learn from the forums and maybe someday, actually submit something useful myself. Once again, a warm country 'hello' to everyone and I hope everyone stays safe out there, especially with the temps going up.
