From the dumpster to recycling business owner

I started the same way most of us started this business, getting up at 4:00 am to look for scrap metal in the neighborhood, inside of the dumpsters and asking people for scrap.

Few months later I rented a small shop to accumulate the scrap metal and to fix things to sell it on craigslist or garage sales. When my business began to grow I decided to move to the next level.

I founded my company Residential Scrap Metal with a focus on residential customers. My mission is to give a little back to my residential customers for all that I've received.

If not for that refrigerator, stove or electronic that people throw on the street, many of us will not have a business. My Cash Reward Program was created to help the community; I'd discovered, that the more I give... the more I receive.

Today I'm helping other scrappers to get customers from my online scrap metal website, through a protected territory, in their own county. I hope I can help many people to take their businesses to the next level by joining forces together.

    Have a wonderful day!

That's all cool, Gil, but I have one question. How are you going to "protect a territory"? ; )
    good luck man : )

    Hello Bear,

I only promote 1 scrapper per territory (county) in my website.

You can't deny a business the right to sell burgers, but if you buy a Mc Donalds you can get a protected territory.

So basically what I'm protecting is the brand and the business model by assigning a "protected territory" to each scrapper.

Make a google search for Residential Scrap Metal

If you want to know more go to the partners section.

I still in the very first phase of this project, but is working just fine.

    Thanks for Asking!

Im curious about that territory deal as well. Whats stopping someone else from collecting on your "territory"? If i heard someone had my neighbourhood as their "territory" well im sorry, but im gonna keep collecting in that area as well. Theres no law or rule saying who can and cant scrap in a particular area. The whole city and beyond is my territory

Please correct me if i have misunderstood your plan.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

It looks like what he is saying is that thru his website he would only promote one person per territory.
my take on this only; if you are looking for someone in your area to remove scrap, and you go to his website, type in your zip code, county, city whatever, then only one person would show up.
like I said this is my take on what he said.

Ahh ok, so his company would assign territories within hiscompany, so another scrapper from his company cant go into another territory of a "co-scrapper"

    Gotcha

He's referring to advertising rights on his website, gino, not scrapping rights in the neighborhood ; )

Basic franchise model. You get the benefit of a branded business name. No one else can use that name in your "territory".

Think of Service Clean or Stanley Steemer. Obviously other companies work to gain customers in the same regions but there won't be two Stanley Steemer outlets competing against each other.

The benefit to a scrapper is that a small operation can appear much larger because of brand recognition.

    Two Men And A Truck
    Molly Maids
    McDonalds (actually most chain restaurants)
    Liberty Tax
    Curves For Women
    Maaco
    Red Wing Shoes

    ...and so on.

FWIW I think its a great idea.
