Hi! My name is Dave and I live in San Diego. I just started scrapping metal recently when dealing with my grandfather's estate. He was a contractor and had piles of metal accumulated around his yard. I'm looking for some extra income at the moment, and I'm considering getting into
e-waste recycling. I've heard that decent money can be made piecing out computers. My friends and I have several used computers and other electronics that I'd like to try to part out. Anyone on here do this? I have a few questions I'd like to figure out, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Most importantly: Which components are worth reselling and which are only worth scrapping?
I'm also interested in knowing how to properly dispose of e-waste haz mats like CRTs.
And I've heard that HDDs are worth more functional than as scrap. Does anyone know how to cheaply, efficiently wipe drives?
I know that offers to buy/sell are only allowed in certain forums, but I'm still in the info-gathering phase at this point. If I can make a decent buck doing this, I'll start doing it a lot more. As I said, any info is greatly appreciated. Also, if you think these questions would be bettered answered somewhere other than 'Introduce Yourself', let me know. Thanks!
