    howdy everyone

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving everyone. My name is Jeff and I go by rockonnnn68 when on the web.
I am a hobby scrapper with a full time regular job in the concrete world and from time to time I come across
various things to scrap or trash. The things I decide to keep have become an eyesore at times and I have to start processing the mess of junk.

Recently a friend of mine gave me some contacts that he claimed contained silver, I am considering refining it myself and would appreciate any information on the subject. Also I have some large fuses which supposedly contain silver. Has anyone else heard this?

    Thanks

    rockonnnn68

Hi Jeff, be very careful of heating the silver contacts. We have some postings on here about it, where under certain conditions it'll make a dangerous gas. There's a lot of good PM's (precious metals) that can be saved up out of all kinds of scrap.

Welcome to the forum and do as Mech has suggested, do lots of reading here and elsewhere before heading down the refining road. Take to time to read our buyers forum and the old threads as well. Best of luck, Mike.

Welcome aboard. Read, learn and profit from all the free info that you will find here.

As far as silver contacts, they are not pure silver , they are alloys of silver and other metals. Some of which when heated can emit toxic fumes which can cause permanent damage to your lungs and/or may kill you if enough is breathed in. Look up Cadmium and check out the msds sheet on it.
