    Hello from MI

Figured I'd join up since I finally started rolling on the scrap side of things.

From West Michigan my entire life, working close to Lake Michigan currently. I consider myself an opportunist, doing the scrapping on the side as I see fit. I have a hard time sitting still, so this gets me in the garage to keep me busy and make a little cash on the side to fund my other projects (4x4ing, hunting, fishing, quads, etc, etc, it never ends)

I'll start having more questions as I get further into this.

Don't have much else to say, but hello all!

picked that name 10 years ago when I was 13 for all my videogames, forums, and whatever else. It stuck.

Currently a Manufacturing Engineer. just trying to make some extra on the side without picking up a part time job. I like setting my own hours. Plus, I like going to garage sales, flea markets, and antique stores. sometimes you just never know what you find.

Hello, and yea, I agree. If a nickle can turn into a dime I'm game. Looking more these days to turn a nickle into a quarter.

Welcome to the forums from a sandbar off the coast of NC. The home of non-lousy pirates.

Enjoy your stay, make use of the search box, an read lots. Even if you think you know everything there is about scrap, I assure you, you will find something on here you didn't know. Good luck, an stop being lousy at being a pirate, your giving the rest of us a bad name.

already made a purchase since I was getting some other stuff (looks like I got a 40-55 gallon aquarium for $5 with a bunch of extras), so I bid on some other things.

Got an oscilloscope for myself (paid $4 for an old tabletop one), as well as a CB radio and an external speaker (with a ton of other small speakers) for $2 between the two lots. and an omega enlarger, which looks like it has quite a bit of aluminum extrusion for $2. I plan on keeping most of it, but things add up.

I also picked up 6 laptops from a friend, one desktop, a giant plotter, a bag of cables, and a few other odds and ends for free.

My biggest problem right now is my local scrap yard doesn't pay for low grade board, they also do a terrible job of classifying board. Need to find a better dealer. I was less than amused when they threw my low end board into their hopper without paying me for it, including several daughter cards, and one laptop board that they claimed wasn't mid/high grade.

Your first lesson...don't sell your boards to the yard. Your here now, make use of our wonderful buyers if you don't have a local connection. See if they take low grade at scrap price. Bout the only thing I sell to my yard is low grade boards, an I dislike even that. Sadly no local buyer for the low grade. Everything else is shipped to buyers here, or saved for refining.

    Howdy from Northern Michigan!

I'm about an hour off Lake Michigan, but quite a bit further north. Don't bother selling boards to yards, ship them to myself or one of the other buyers on here. Best way to sell them, by far and away (unless you've got low grade).

I'll have to double check, but their mid and high grade wasn't too bad, $2-$4# iirc. I'll check my last scrap sheet tomorrow

    EDIT:
I lied. It was .40 and .80#; lesson learned.
