Hello everyone,
I own and operate Ventura County Towing. We are primarily a towing company, but are new to scrapping and very much interested. We have been running a cash for cars business the last several weeks to see how it goes. As of now our method is to remove the catalytic converter(s), remove fuel tank(as required by the yard), and remove tires.
We sell the rims, if aluminum, to the scrapyard.
The tires we sell on craigslist if they're good. If not we are saving them to recycle to a rubber recycler.
The cats we are holding onto. We did the math and realized that if we sell to a refinery vs selling to a middleman the profits would be exponential. I understand that the refineries require a 500 cat minimum, but down the line I plan on possibly buying cats or going in with fellow cat-holders to reach the 500 minimum and split the profits.
Just an idea.
Anyways, I'm here to learn as much as I can from the veterans here and digest as much information as possible.
Thanks for reading.
Jake
