hi young guy from new york!

hi my name is Casey rohr i am 16 i have been scrapping since 10, but now that i have my drivers license i am taking this to a new level: i started my own business called valley scrapping. now i do have allot of experience in the scrapping business but i always want to learn more. just a few things to share with you
    vehicles i have scrapped: 2
dollar amount in copper: over 800 in the past 2 years
    riding mowers: 10
push mowers 40, unfortunately none had aluminum decks
    campers: 1
    appliances: 30+
now this has been since i started my business in december plus i am a soon to be eagle scout and a very active volunteer fire fighter so i do juggle alot of things plus school.
    my vehicle i use to my metal is a 99 chevy 1500 5.3 auto 215,xxxmi and when the snow melts my baby: 73 f250 360 v8 4 speed 8ft bed 62,xxx
i will also soon be buying a cutting torch and a demo saw.
alot of the scrap i have gotten is just from driving around, seeing metal sitting in the woods and stopping and asking about it. i saw this site and thought it was pretty cool
i take my metal to b&b recycling and some times ben weitsman of hornell (upstate shredding)

Welcome, Casey, from the far side of Canada.

...'73 F250....that brings back memories....I inherited one from my dad in about '79. An XLT 4x4--the old style that seemed like it was 6 feet in the air. Put a 390 in it, cam, 4-barrel, swapped the auto tranny for a 4-speed. Didn't get any better mileage than the old 360 but it was 'WAY more fun to drive. Still regret trading it off on a new chunk of jap scrap...

    Jon.

Welcome to the forums from a sandbar off the coast of NC.

Makes me glad to see more young folks getting into scrapping, and finding our forum. Lot's of good advice here, to keep you doing this for many years if you so choose. We also have a few folks near your age, or a little bit older. Keep an eye out for them, as they may give you additional ideas. Sure they'll chime in eventually.

I know you got a lot on your plate, with work, scouts, school, etc. but do find some time to peruse our archives, the time you spend doing that will definitely pay off in the future.

Good luck an once again, welcome to the forums.

    Welcome to the forums!

Hopefully us "old" guys can give you some good advice, and help you avoid all the mistakes we've all made.

    Good luck!

Young Fella, I too started in New York and it can be a Scrappers gold mine but take the time to learn. Read prior post and ask lots of questions, and for heaven sakes, don't develop a smoking, drinking, or tobacco chewing habit. Start saving and investing your money, don't just spend in vein.
