Welcome from a Maryland person now living in NY! Here's my big tip on breaking down anything: Before you start taking it apart, make sure it isn't worth more if you leave it intact. If you get something and you're not sure what its resale value is, you can check the "sold" listings on
eBay. If you can't find it there, you can do a search or ask here on the forum. Sometimes it's better to reuse than to recycle, and of course a lot of times it isn't. Knowing the difference can save you a lot of time and make you a lot more money.
Whether you have something for resale or for scrapping, there is a lot of information available at this forum. In many of the sections, you'll see a few topics that are always at the top of the list of threads. Those contain guidelines or articles (kind of like Wikipedia) contributed by members of the forum, and they're a great place to start. There are a lot of experienced, knowledgeable people here, and if you are interested in learning about their trade and sharing your own insights, you have come to the right place.
