Cool Hi y'all from Alabama! (aluminum foil)

    Uh, just saying hello!

    I'm from Alabama.
I'm not very knowledgeable about scrap metal.
    My experience is very limited:

I know you can sell cans because my mom picks them up and sells them for cigarettes.

I HATE taking her to the scrap yard but I got a crush on the owner's son so I go anyway but he doesn't notice me.

I got in trouble: On one trip to the scrap yard I noticed that they took car alternators and starters. I got excited because my dad has these laying around the yard and in the trunk of his car so I took a box of them there and got a lot of money. I should have asked first because my dad said they were all good starters and alternators.

I joined because my job wastes about 5 pounds of aluminum foil a day and I'm trying to see if saving all this foil would be worth my wild.

Most yards won't buy foil cause it's not "aluminum", it's a mixed mess and almost impossible to recycle. Tends to burn up in the melting furnace.

Welcome to the forum. A crush on the owners son!! I shouldn't say this because I don't know how old you are and I'm not going to ask but you should make a move on him. It would be a good way to learn the scrap metal business. The next time you go to the scrap yard ask them if they buy the foil, bring a piece to show them what you have. Some yards do buy it, you might be able to get some gas money from it. Good luck.

Maybe nobody buys it by you but I know of two yards by me that buys it. That's why I told her to ask the yard about it.

I'm assuming you meant; "worth my while"?

Welcome, the foil question is a good one. As stated above: its generally so thin, there isn't much left to reclaim, ask your yard, ultimately that's what matters.

    Thanks for the welcome!

I called my scrap yard and they told me they do take aluminum foil and pay $0.25 a pound.
I don't know how much my bag weighs but I broke out in a sweat carrying it to the car. I'm estimating it's about 5 to 10 lbs at least.

I did the math and if I hoard all the foil from my job for a month I will have enough to pay my water bill.

Welcome to the forum. Read the old threads and learn. You will likely find much more of value to scrap after the excellent education available free here on the forum. As you can see there are differences of opinion on many subjects but it will alert you to more possibilities. Mike.

Hi y'all from Alabama! (aluminum foil)

all the yards here in little rock Arkansas buy it, including tennenbaums (biggest recycler in north America), except one (commercial metals group). I've always mixed it in with my cans. none said anything except CMG. they told me not to bring foil there. told me to take it to Tennenbaums, Arky

Paying your water bill with scrap money is a good thing! Better than buying cigarettes. But I shouldn't talk, I waste my money on Copenhagen witch is probably just as nasty or nastier.
