    Thumbs up Hello from Wisconsin

Hi everyone. I came across this forum searching the internet for the best way to sell computer boards. I am a part time scraper working full time as a Machinist. I have a F550 steak bed truck and small skid loader Both get used little but are well worth having for those occasional great opportunities. My car always has those handy tools in the trunk to quickly remove something valuable I come across. I do a little selling on Ebay as time permits and have kept a good reputation with Ebay. In the few hours I have spent here in the Scrap Metal Forum I have been vary impressed with the help and advice you all give each other. I have learned things new to me. I would like to be part of that, Posting my knowledge as well as learning from others. I have found navigating the forum difficult for the topics I want to view but I will get better. Shipping/mailing scrap will be new to me. I will be looking for ways to identify precious metal plating sources and the best places to sell them. I expect to find many answers here. I break things down quickly with power tools and a torch if the value is there like I'd find in an old welder, Computers with a cordless drill. I hatchet is a really cool tool also. However I expect to learn new techniques for some of my work and grading and things I should have been keeping out of the sheet iron pile and new places to sell to. I am 50 years old and live in MiLWAUKEE WISCONSIN. I am honest and expect everyone to make some profit from there work including those I sell to. Thank you to those who started this forum and all those who participate responsibility, Were all going to make a bit more cash.

Thank you for the nice welcome .
If you Wisconsin scrapers get together again I will join if it is at a time when I could be there. I have been searching old threads for several evenings now. So much information. Starting to reread some and sometimes cant find a thread when looking again for something I read. I likely won't start new threads until I am reasonably sure I have a new question. I have wanted to comment here and there then sometimes found later in the thread another member offered a similar response.

Something’s I have learned. I should have been saving keyboards, I should have been tarring down medical equipment(who knows what I gave up), I have a friend who services copy machines, how many pounds of ewaste have I shredded that were in those?
didn't know silver oxide batteries really have silver in them. I thought of them like amalgam tooth fillings(just called silver and have mercury in them) so many I have wasted. I really need to get a Gold test kit. I will check Ebay for that.
Going to have to start carrying a cordless drill and set the car and truck up for charging.
I do have talent in controlled destruction, However sometimes a hammer or hatchet is the correct tool. So I will offer information in time.

Is it approiate to comment in a year old thread ? when I have helpful information to add? I feel a little guilty learning so much and still not offering anything. I don't want to make comments just to see my own text.

To Abuilder I really like your diamond wheel Idea. I will try it myself.

To Steelhead. I have some ideas to build a nice wire stripper, I need one also. My idea would slit the sheath on large wire and on smaller wire cut it in two. The commercial strippers I have seen scrape off the sheath making it hard to separate the wire from the sheathing.

To Mudlucky. Your threads have been so helpful in the areas I have the least knowledge. For me time is always short. So for now I am going to save much of my Escrap till the gold and silver price rises. By then I hope to have better sorting skills and shredding all the steel now should support the expanses. I will be spending more time pulling Escrap from all scrap I come across. I still am not sure if I should brake down hard drives or not. For now I will just box them up.
I have a customer base that already absorbs any free time I have so you won't have any competion from me on Milwaukee's Craig’s List.

If any local Scrappers have a working laptop that will work well here and on Ebay I would be interested in buying it if it’s a good price. Doesn’t need to be fancy, Just better then this 1 gig of ram I am using now, So often I have to wait for pages to load. because it is using the hard drive to store ram data. I m not expecting scrap price. Your time counts for something also. Thought I would ask before visiting the local stores.
Thank you all again for the welcome.

I would say that if you have a good bit of advice not already offered then yes it would be ok to bring the old one back to the front.

Lightfoot, one thing I've noticed, there isn't a shortage of ewaste in the Milwaukee area. While I use CL, I don't get a lot of my business from CL. My customer base has grown to the point that I'm not actively searching for business that much at this point. Taking care of the customers you have will generate a lot of word of mouth referrals. Even better is when they call back 3 months later and ask you to come again. Scrapping is like any other business: you must provide excellent customer service, present and represent yourself and your business well, be honest, and follow up.

Thanks for the shout out on the threads. I'm just a newbie (about a year now) and I still learn something new everyday on here. I promise that your time reading these forums is time well spent. If you find a thread you like, bookmark it and name the bookmark something that will help you find it again.

    Hi Lightfoot
That was quite awhile ago that I posted that diamond wheel cut on that copper field.
    Was the picture still there??
At the time “photobucket” was still a free and I used them to host photos. Is it still there????.
    Please let me know.
    Glenn

BTW; I will soon be hosting all of my pics from a friends server/ISP point.
