Hi all.
I'm Joe. I'm a high school student, but only until this July. Then its time for college land. Right now I'm working as a commercial cleaner a few nights a week, and scrapping when scrap availability and a 2wd truck in a PA winter allows. My scrapping started out as me trying to clean up my girlfriend's farm. Lots of old implements, and a big juicy pile of tin stacked 8 feet high :-) There is still a lot left, but I can't get to it right now, because its on the other side of a muddy snowy field. And the bigger stuff I am going to need something to cut it up with, or a trailer. I can't exactly fit a tractor in my truck, unfortunately. But as of recent, I've been able to expand to basement/garage cleanouts and the like. This past month was pretty slow. But over the summer, I was making $300-400 a week on it, and about $75-150 a week the more recent months. I really liked that income in relation to the time I spent on it, and love being my own boss, and being able to work outside with my hands and my truck for a few hours a day. I'd like to start picking up some more momentum, and putting in a lot more hours scrapping. Word of mouth can only really take you so far I guess. And craigslist is totally flooded with ads. Flyers . . . well in short, flyers weren't worth getting chased by angry dogs.
Happy scrapping everybody.
