beggining scrapper from the mining town of labrador city!

hello everyone! just here to introduce myself, im from labrador city newfoundland...the place i consider the "fort mcmurray you have never heard of"

open pit mining for iron ore is the name of the game here! and being such a small town you can never get ANYTHING you need the day you need it, and if you can its gonna cost you A LOT more than anywhere else in canada.

what has gotten me interested in scrapping is the fact that there isnt a SINGLE place in town that pays for scrap metal (probably got you confused now eh?) and with the vast amount of heavy equipment, drilling and blasting, and otherwise industrial companies around here didnt make sense to me either. It wasnt until today that it occured to me the gold mine i was sitting on.

i work for atlas copco, which is one of the worlds biggest suppliers of rock drilling equipment in the world, i have also worked for several other drilling and blasting companies in town (not very uncommon since everything is short term contract based, companies boom and bust like its normal out here) and have begun to realize the potential to make some good coin on scrap since nobody else here is!

ill be very active on this forum for the next while id say, mostly reading but asking the odd question...ill find a way to turn a profit out of my new found hobby yet

Welcome to the forum. Read a lot, as you have planned. Try to locate buyers of the drills with the special metals that are sought after(carbide if I recall correctly). If you look through our buyers section you should find one or two who are into that business. Although you are in Canada they may be able to help you find someone up there if shipping to the U.S. is problematic.

Keep your plans to yourself and don't act like you are too aware of what's valuable. Start slow and work up to where you want to be. Best of luck, Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
