To add to what Matty was saying, I started out handing out business cards at yard sales explaining that I would haul away their left overs when the sale was done. Clothes went to the nonprofits, scrap went to me, anything still nice went to our next yard sale or Ebay, and old outdated electronics I started tearing down.

To do that you need some storage room to sort and possibly store.
