    Hello at last...

I discovered this forum a while ago... can't remember what I was looking for at the time, but I seemed to have some trouble signing up so I left it at that.
Then this morning I spotted in my spam folder a notification of a private message, so here I am.

I'm in the UK where we have quite a big problem with people stealing metal: lead off roofs, sidings off roads, phone cables...
It looks like most of you are on t'other side of the pond, do you have much of this kind of problem?

Welcome from Dakota Territory. On this side of the pond it depends on where you live. My normal stomping grounds, we do not have a concern. I have never locked my house and still leave the keys in the trucks. Where I am working now, I cannot leave my vehicle unlocked for 30 seconds without a concern. I am learning about being street smart in this new environment, a complete change from everyday life. It just depends on your neighbors.

Welcome to the forum. I am wondering what the meaning of "Harryloon"? The term loon to me means either a strange water bird(we have many living in this area) or a crazy person. Adding the word "harry" somehow makes it worse. Mike

Quite possibly it's the guy's name (Harry Loon) or it's a misspelled form of hairy. At least it's not Harry Reid

    Exactly so.
And in English it generally means "having (a lot of) hair"; it never occurred to me that it might mean something different in American...
But I suppose that also works.

I only dabble, so I probably avoid the tar... and I confess I am guilty of tarring, but the way I figure it, if folk don't want to be accused of theft then they shouldn't drive an unmarked white transit.

Hey, I know where Lancashire is... I'm mostly based in Yorkshire.
