    NuFuture Recycling!

Good Evening all! I have been browsing the forums for months now but decided to make an account now that I have decided this is more than just a hobby. I myself just learned of the value in scrap around Jan 1st this year (2014). After learning the value, and seeing how much is thrown out at work, I decided I needed to start snagging it. I have a 08 Chrylser Sebring... it can pull up to 1,500 pounds and I already had a hitch on it for my little boat. I found a 4x8 trailer for $200, re did the wood sides for $40, brought the first load to the scrap yard and got a check for $130 (Aluminum from old lights at work), and $80 for a ton of random transformers, ballasts, wire, etc. At that point I realized how MUCH $$ there was haha! I have made a few trips between now and then and have now paid the trailer off 10x over.... all for free so far!

I meddled with the idea of making an LLC for a while and decided what the hell.... tomorrow will never be today, so I Midas well make it happen today. Got some business cards, registered NuFuture, got a logo made, and polos ordered. I haven't done any sort of advertising, but the referrals seem to be generated from nowhere. People are excited that IM excited to take their junk! Next step is saving 2,500-3,000 for that first truck with 100,000k miles or so!

I have read many on this site in similar situations and wish you all the best! Every time I see a truck full of metal on the roads I cant help but smile HAHA!(Although at the DUMP today I wanted to cry at the amount of aluminum in the truck ahead of us!!Whole bed full of that Springy lookin aluminum ducting >.< )

Got the car/trailer ready for the scrap yard in the morning and then off to my first estate sale. I think I spotted a couple large spools of wire (50lbs+ per). I will update tomorrow if I end up buying anything.

grats but I would of said hold off on getting the llc, now you have reporting you HAVE to make sure you stay on top of. Also your tow car/truck should have DOT numbers since its being used to haul company goods on top of changing your auto policy from private to commercial or they wont cover anything if your hauling for commercial (your company)

Should of moved just a tab slower..

An trust me..I am speaking from exp...a lot of it

Thanks for reading and leaving your thoughts!

I wont change the insurance on my care, but once I buy a truck I suppose I would have to insure it under the company name... but why would I not want to do that? The funds are ready for the truck and insurance, and I want to appear to prospects as a company rather than an individual.

What do you think I should move slower on if im looking to make this a serious venture? I mean that in a serious manner. Should I wait to get a larger vehicle than the 3k-ish range for a truck? I could wait for more contacts, but the ones I have are already developing as fast as I can keep up. I thought having the LLC would protect me a bit.

    The estate sale!

I ended up getting a variety of different tools and not much else... couple big trash cans... haha! Prices indoors were like walking through Target....
The bundle of wire WAS in fact a big ol roll of Romex (like 80 pounds), but had a tag "Not for sale"

A "one-person" LLC will not prevent any competent lawyer from "piercing the veil" in case of an injury or damages claim. Depending on your state, with a commercial vehicle you will have more stringent laws (read: expensive) such as required safety equipment (triangles, fire extinguisher). A lot of repair places will have higher rates for commercial vehicles. Insurance - you need liability insurance NOW. Actually, I doubt your vehicle is insured if your company learns you are using it for any type of business (and they will when you make a claim. They will not pay off and that lawyer I mentioned will be coming after YOU and everything you own).
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Truck needs to be a newer truck, can haul more weight but if you need a cheap good running truck my old one that runs on veg oil I am selling if you need bigger truck (7.3 diesel) but I would say get a standard DBA and so you can file things under your S/N for the first year or two. This way you can DO it as a company and but not have all the added costs of having a llc. When you have a llc you have to have heath insurance, monthly meetings and reporting, have a BoD and a line of other things...cost is far more than just the up front paperwork.

Best truck to use...a 2006 to 2007 ram 3500 5.9. they haul like hell get good mpg and none of the epa crap that makes them brake down, but they can cost 25 grand.

Again, do a DBA..build up hire attorney and slowly build up from there. Get GOOD insurance that will protect you and theft....thats worth its weight in gold.

I'm confused as how 2000lbs of wire, ballasts, and transformers only brought $80

Haha, "ton" as a metaphor to what I felt like was a large pile of junk.

Thanks again for the responses guys! I know I may have jumped off the deep end (or sound like it), but I am taking the jump. So far, I have spent the past 6 years of work, research, and training into my full time career. I feel like its time to put some of that effort into my own venues.

Here we can have a Truck/Trailer weight up to 26k before needing a CDL, or if hauling more then 10k combined for business purposes. It leaves me with a bit to think about, but until I get a check written out straight to the business I have plenty of time to keep researching. I will have Liability before any public job is performed. Taxes are already done by our tax man! Even if I end up never making a cent officially for NuFuture the only real drawback was the enrollment fee, right?

I don't plan to ditch my FT job tomorrow... or next month... or possibly ever, but I felt like its time to start exploring some alternatives.

Easy - I read your story a few days back, and when I got to the end I wish you could have felt the way it made me feel. It was a story of massive personal gains which ended close to where it started financially, but it seemed like you gained SO much knowledge and experience. We are young with a LOT of time to "figure it out". If you accomplished as much as your story said I don't think anyone doubts your success in whatever you pursue next.

Welcome to the site, NuFuture. You sure incite some interesting conversation. I prefer to stay low-key myself but then again I'll never advance beyond my individual inspirations......nor do I want to. (My valiant endeavors have a history of failure) You, on the other hand have the sky as your limit and seemingly the education to go along with it. Add experience to that and you'll be making headlines.
