    Hello from WA

Just joined this cool forum. I've scrapped off and on for the last 20 years, mostly non ferrous. Started out with aluminum cans when I was in my early teens, used to go around at a high school I lived across the street from picking cans out of the garbage, maybe a little dumpster diving too. While I was doing that, one of the custodians hooked me up with BAGS AND BAGS of cans almost everyday! Had to lay them in the street and run over them with a truck to crush them all.

A few years back, I got about $120 for #1 and #2 copper, brass bullet casings and aluminum all out of the trunk of a friend's Kia Rio. That's when I learned of a new law was passed in my state because of tweekers stealing copper, etc. The Rio was eventually scrapped to a junkyard for $350 after the timing belt broke and ate up the inside of the motor.

And last year I was helping a friend process and haul scrap for a while in a Ford Ranger. That truck was eventually scrapped as well to the yard we frequent.

Recently I've decided to get serious about scrapping. Got an old Subaru Brat, tiny little truck (actually own two of them!), made a run last month or so and got about $60 for tin(shred), copper, brass, aluminum. I want to try to average $100 a load next time so I'm stockpiling non ferrous and watching the market prices.
