Calhoun, welcome to: SCRAPPING IN GEORGIA!
I am over in Flovilla off Highway 16 and have been doing this almost a year.
1) You need to be able to lift up to 100 pounds, using correct lifting techniques, without hurting yourself. If you can't, reconsider the type of scrap you work.
2) Pickup or flat bed, either w/ stake rails is mandatory w/ the orange strapping. Nothing else is near as good; a big old Econoline or box van, however ....
3) Craftsman or Goodyear Professional Socket Set 1/4 - 3/8 - 1/2. Two boxes of 5 Mil blue gloves from harbor
4) Plenty of five gallon and cat litter buckets. The more the better. At least ten; you will find you need more as you learn to sort scrap.
Newnan-Coweta has some scrap. Heard Blaze pays good. The best quarterly curb side pick up, just ended in a south Atlanta city, otherwise, I'd invite you, as I can not ever in the five years I've worked 'em, get all of it.
I have been looking for a partner, however, we are 60 mi. apart. If I hear of any scrap your way, I will be certain to let you know if you e-mail me your cell phone. Been networking with two scrappers and trying to get some of us together on a phone network to increase our intake. -- Paul H.
