Greetings!

Hello everyone, new member here, have been lurking for a while! Currently in Roanoke, VA. I have been rescuing, recovering, reusing and recycling stuff since I was a kid, Now in my sixties I do it for extra income, to be a responsible stewart of what mother nature has given us and teach youngins that no matter where you are in life there is a way!

When I was kid I would go around collecting soda and beer bottles, bring them home, classify them by brand(soda bottles) and color(beer bottles). Then off to the local supermarket we would go with the bottles in a burlap sack in my bicycle! They paid me 3 cents a bottle for soda bottles (Coca-Cola, Pepsi and others). I was rich! The beer bottles my dad would take me to the local plant in his car on Saturdays. Of course my mom was not too happy with a few hundred bottles all over the backyard, but she would let it go. Oh, the memories! Do you remember those days? Later on I did cardboard! Oh my!

Today I still glance on the side of the road for aluminum cans LOL!

After retiring a few years back and leaving the corporate world I went to work part time for a friend that did corporate asset recovery for large corporations. I was the "computer guy", sort, identify, process, and redirect all the computer equipment for resale, recycle etc. When the recession hit in '08 he lost a couple of major contracts and decided to close his business.

Now I just rescue what i can from going to the landfill, recover from friends and small businesses, reuse what I can, resell what has any value and recycle the rest for scrap.

As for my friend, he is enjoying retirement with a lot less stress!
