    New e-scrapper in Kansas City

Hi all, well, I'm another newby. Wish I had known about E-scrap years ago. So much fun breaking down computers. Also so very much to learn. Thank you for this awesome forum and all your great information. As a woman new to all of this , my friends think I've gone nuts.

You have to be about half nuts to want to get into this line of unforgiving work, lol.
As far as the learning, just do a little reading every nite in the electronic section and the breaking down section and things will start coming together. Welcome.

I'm a few hours away from you in arkansas straight down 71, or the new I-49... I just got into the scrap world a while ago myself. I am glad to see someone from KC as I am up there all the time. I have some hookups at some voice/data companies up in KC that I don't get to at all. Cytek corp being one of the biggest. I know these guys, I know they do a ton of computer replacements, been to a couple Chiefs games with them too. If they don't do anything but pitch them I will be sure to let you know.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Thank you Pfred59.I would be glad to contact Cytek. Would you have a contact name? Also, does anyone know where I can recycle computer plastic covers?

Howdy from Lawrence, KS, and welcome to the forum!

I'm coming up on one year of e-scrapping and I'm *still* learning the ropes, but it's been a lot of fun along the way and there are all sorts of great people here.

I'm very much a small-time operator compared to most on these forums, but if I can be of any local help, let me know!

    cheers,
    thebugguy

I talked to the guy at Cytek on Friday. I asked him if they trashed their tear downs or what they did with them, turns out they have been selling all of their escrap for a while now, so getting it for free wont be happening with those guys. But at least it was a phone call.

Welcome to the scrap forum.....we DO like pictures. I do some heavier farm scrapping/cleanup here in Nebr., not too advanced; just brute strength and awkwardness, kinda whatever my skidsteer will handle, loaded on my 20 ft trailer and powered by the Dodge. E-scrap confuses me.

escrap is for those of us that don't have a skid steer

when you can load up thousands of lbs at a time, you don't need anything to be gold plated lol

Phred59, you are right. At this point I don't have a truck. But, my hope is to build my scrap business to need one.

    New e-scrapper in Kansas City

luckily I have a truck at my disposal when I need one. we have a shop truck that just sits there at my regular job. which is at a voice and data cabling supply house. which is also where I get most of my hookups from. they walk right in our door to buy materials for new systems, which is when I get to ask, hey... what ya doing with the old stuff? man it's too easy from my desk sometimes lol.

Just thought I'd write a little something since it's been awhile. Still enjoy figuring out how to get each piece of e-scrap apart. I've been watching videos of people smashing and banging the heck out of printers just to get a board and some copper. I'm not sure printers are worth it. Anyone have comments on that? And, I still would love to find a plastics recycler who buys computer plastic.

Hello and welcome neighbor, I'm also in Kansas City. As far as I know there are no plastic recyclers locally.

Welcome to the forum Sands. Don't you know that nut's is the new norm?
I use to break down printers but no longer. Now I just remove the plastic side panel and remove the circuit boards. Takes just a few minutes and my local scrap yard takes the rest as shred. As for hammers, I don't need them. All electronics were assembled in a certain order using screws and you just have to figure out how to reverse that order. That's one of the things I like about scrapping. Maybe it's a guy thing, maybe it's just me. I don't know.
