I live in Sarasota, Florida and have been scrapping for 30 years. I scrap steel, brass, copper (although I do tend to hold copper almost as tight as a precious metal), ICW and aluminum (that beer ain't gonna drink itself!). I am a self employed handyman and I do pick up some scrap that way, I also do curbside shopping for anything I can throw on the pile. One of the best veins I mine is brass and copper at garage sales. I pick up brass decoratives for basically nothing and throw then in the brass pile (after I run it past "The Cruise Director" to see if she wants it). I have picked up usable 100'+ rolls of copper wire for $5.
I look forward to meeting you and looking over the site and learning some guys with some dirty hands. I'm not tough, but I'm a scrapper!
