    THIS~!

Woman I'm a scrapper not a magician! lol.

I make mine sound all tough, but hey..she puts up with all the trouble I cause. An about the tools in random places..you'd be surprised I've been asked why I left a tool on the couch, or the kitchen counter. My favorite is when she buys something an the first thing she says is.."No you can't scrap it!". She is aware of my love for breaking open new things to see what's in them.

I drive her nuts at yard sales. "Babe! They got <insert electronic here> for <price>!" Then I get it home, crack it open..an then I hear a very loud facepalm from the front of the house. Sometimes she's my worse competition, I'll see a chair or something on the curb an it's a race to see who grabs it first. If I do it's scrap, or sold. If she does it becomes a new craft project. LOL.

I still won't let her on the forum tho. Fella has to be able to escape sometime!

Consider yourself Lucky Sir! My wife is very rarely with me if I get a "find" I drag it home, pull it in the garage and at some point she will come out to the garage and say "You aren't going to scrap THAT are you??" Then it becomes her new craft project. You have to race your wife to the curb. I have to race time of snagging something and getting it to the yard before she sees it!

Oooh and my apologies to the OP.. I think we derailed this topic into a 100 car pileup!

As far as getting my better half to show up here? Not gonna happen. She already has enough online communities to participate in and scrapping holds no fascination whatsoever to her (unless I happen to find some good "free" fabric or a cool piece of furniture on the curb). I already drive her nuts with leaving tools (and bits and pieces of stuff and illegible notes scrawled to myself) all over the place.

The pendulum has finally swung to the other side in regards to the money aspect. My scrapping income (what little there is) has been officially designated as my "hobby money", which makes it *seem* like I spend less money than I do on stuff like stamps and coins and marbles and junk. And, after a couple years of making dozens of $13.56 deposits and withdrawals to and from our family bank account (which also drives mrsbugguy nuts as she keeps the family books), I have officially been given the green light for my own "thebugguy-business" account. As long as I don't make too big of a mess in the house and get my other chores done, I'm pretty much good to go.

Now my firewood business money- that's family money. not exactly sure why, but that's the agreement....

    cheers,
    tbg

Took my wife with me to the yard once to help unload, she was fascinated by the big magnet . She said it reminded her of "The Brave Little Toaster" ( Some may get the reference) Anyway that made me laugh.
Then once we unloaded( Mostly sheet steel and brake rotors) I went and collected the take for the day. When she saw the money it was like a light bulb went on in her head and I started to think- oh boy now she sees
there is some money to be made here. A week later my brother asked to borrow my lawn roller. It's a large steel drum with a handle on it that you use to roll over a lawn to flatten it. It can be filled with water to add weight.
So she sees me loading it into my van and says " That thing looks like a piece of crap I bet we can scrap it and make some money... I just about peed my pants- she got bit by the scrapping bug !
So to end this long story I get to keep the money and I buy here something nice here n there. It's become more of a team effort. She helps me when I need it- she good strong woman !

The wife asked about the cash from the last scrap run and I was forced to tell her, "I must transport the scrap to the yard over water. Unfortunately, the entire stack was lost in a boating accident...

10 years ago Mrs British could not strip single strand solid wire........Now she can strip even the smallest 'hair' wire - even after telling her it's not adding any value -to been told is that all of it?
If i could keep up with her i'd be a rich man!!
Cable was an easy find 10 yrs ago (bright was £800 tonne) now (Bright at £4000 tonne) very rare find . Then when they restored a house it went in the skip - now it is put in their van!!

In the UK so many people are turning to scrap that curbco is over-run with them and most ain't paying taxes and overheads - Just 'quick buck' guys. As said here many times they leave a mess/steal or just give us 'good guys' a bad name - blood boiling!

British - too nice for his own good - no more Mr nice guy - Mr A Cooper
