Hi,
I would like to introduce my self as buyer of computer scrap.I am fairly new to this busness.I am currently looking for CRT Monitors, Mother Boards, CPUs, Ac Adapters ( chargers) , Keyboard Mouse etc.
Secondly, is there any good free website to know prices of these items so I dont end up paying more than what I have to.
We are located in Columbus Ohio. If you know any company that deals with computer scrap please let me know.

For computer scrap most people go off of what they can get on EBay.com. Also you might want o do a forum search on the subject. There was a member that sent off computer scrap to an online company and recievd very little for thier time and effort. They documneted in the thread i just dont remember what it was called. This might give you a better idea about prices as well.

Yeah, that was my thread. It was a subsidiary company from CashforGold and they bought the computer scrap. I had 27 # package sent to them that contained mother boards, sound cards, video cards, network cards, some cd rom drive boards, and 2 cell phones. I got a whopping check for $3.14

That all $3.14. Do you think it's worth time to look for scrap ( as u mentioned 27 ) for this amount. And where did u got scrap from .. eBay?

I got all my scrap boards from computers that I picked up. Selling the boards on ebay would of been the better route to go for me on that call. Right now, my yard has started buying circuit boards and pays anywhere from 9 cents a pound for low grade boards to up to 52 cents a pound for the higher grades.
When they buy them though, they are looking at the black chips. The more the boards are, the higher the board gets. Not sure exactly what the chips are, made of, or why that is how they determine what they will pay.
Each computer, once broken down, I end up with about $3.00 per. That price includes the steel, the wires, and what I can salvage of aluminum.

If you are getting into the E-Waste business, you might want to check your state laws [DEHEC] that govern such business. There are also Fed Laws [EPA].
The main thing most of them have a problem with is CRTs or Computer Monitors, as they have lead and other toxins in them.
Many states are cracking down on these items and if you get caught handling such items in an "illegal" manner, you could face some pretty good fines.
Just be careful.

High grade circuit boards should bring you NO LESS than $2.00 per lb. Thats the ones with trace amounts of Gold.
The low grade boards avg about 10 cents.
Currently, Ebay seems to be the best place to sell higher grade boards, as they are bring MUCH more than avg "scrap prices".

I agree on Ebay being the place to be when it comes to selling the circuit boards while scrapping computers. I too went with an online company but I decided to do an experiment. I gathered 50 pounds of motherboards. I divided it into two lots of 25 pounds. The first lot I sent in to Cashforelectronicscrap.com or something like that (they are owned and operated by CJenvironmental) and the other lot I listed on Ebay. They were very similar when it came to grade of the boards...One week later I got a check from CJenvironmental for $7.50 and a Paypal payment from my Ebay buyer for $95.00.

ebay is by far the best place no questions about it, i listed 40 lbs on ebay sold for $230.00 + shipping, ebay is the way for e-scrap!!!!!!!!

Ok so how do you know if its high grade or gold? Ive seen some threads on here refer to the plug in components have gold. Or solderless connections. I have no idea but i have considered scrapping these several times. I have noted what you posted on the lil black chips. Anything else to tip me off whether its a high end board?

Any18, are you already up and running or just getting started? There are a few other buyers already set up in the Columbus area that offer pretty competitive prices. I usually drive through on my way home every once in a while with a few hundred pounds of motherboards and the like. I would be glad to chat if you would like.
Dear Any18, you'll probably face very stiff competition, especially from Ohio Drop Off [ http://www.ohiodropoff.com/buy.html ], but you mentioned CRT monitors. Since ODO lists only the transformers from CRT Monitors at $.30USD you may have found a competitive niche market. If you can give a price quote and either offer free shipping like www.cashforelectronicscrapusa.com or are in the Toledo, Ohio area I can supply literally tons of CRT monitors for you so let me know.

From what I'm hearing that place is no competition, in fact the parent company (cash for gold) has hundreds of complaints from the BBB. Be forewarned, This was on a news program on TV.

I buy computer waste as well. If your looking for a buyer send me a pm. An with me you dont have to worry about ebay an paypal fees or someone trying to say you sent them 30pounds when you sent them 40pounds. Trust me..they have done that.

New to forum, new to computer recycling, vet to ferrous and non. I need to know what are some reputable smelters, or buyers of e-waste. I heared some offer to melt it down and could split your return in half( half cash and half gold) Is this true, and who do I trust?!

I personally don't know myself..But if I did want to know, I would search this forum and google and maybe even the Wall Street Journal. Then, I would present the better options that I came up with to the forum and see if they have any feedback.

wow this thread is like a brand new forum, most of the posters I have never heard of before. loyalty is a big thing with me even at the cost of a few pennies.
there are many threads here about every thing you talked about, and an entire section focused on e waste.
easy recycle has been bvery helpfull to many many here and no bad reports or complaints. send him a pm. yup the ebay thing is ok if its your thing but for me. my nervious systen cant stand the angziety dealin with people thee, there like a box of chocolates ya never know what yr gonna get
any one who ever sold any thing to cashfor gold has done no research at all. any one should be able to sme;; that stink a mile away.
not being rude just letteng you know about any thing and everything ya want to know abour any kind of scrap is right here. the archives are vast and easy to use. just my >02
ps there are others here who also buy e waste. lol including me at some of the prices I saw quoted, but Im not that type. I may not die wealthy but I know which direction Im going when I do.

You need to do some research and and hard work of your own if you expect to make any money in thi line of work. You are asking the ultimate lazy question. Why don't you try a google search? I live in CBus and trust me, there are a lot of us. I don't want to discourage you all together but you may want to consider another line of work if you plan on making any real coin in this city. One, there are already many buyers of ewaste in this city, two there are over fifteen scrap yards and three unless you have in initiative to get off your ass and do reading and hard work of your own then you better throw in the towl already. Asking these kind of questions without looking through the old threads is a waste of everyone's time. sure, you can get all of the tv's in the world but pretty soon you will have to get rid of them and then guess what, you realize that you have some cheap magnet logo for your "business" on the side of a barely running truck who's name is now discredited for having illegally dumped 40 screens. Now you are out of "business" when you owe the EPA $25,000.
