Hi all. first off I just want to say thank you all for the wealth of knowledge I have already attained from this site.
My name is Dan, and I have only been scrapping for a month or two now, but I have to say its all very rewarding. I work out of a friends garage i am renting, and I currently get most of my stuff off of craigslist and freecycle, and in particular TVs.
I have only been to one yard, because its the closest. Some people have warned me about this place, but everyone there is very friendly and "took care of me as a new guy" (in what sense, i don't know. I had some steel straps in my #1 copper he let me take out). The place for anyone interested is Sullivan metals in Holyoke MA. (google sullivan scrap, cant post links yet) They have their price list under the
scrap metal section of the site. Are these fair prices?
I'm hoping to make many more contacts and parlay this into a living, as other job options aren't available to me anymore. I'm trying to get my hands on everything, but now ive got 20+ buckets with all sorts of different things. Hopefully that separation wasn't in vain. I separated ALL plastic from the light iron or "shred" my first run in. Boy can you imagine my face when i saw whole appliances in there haha.
I guess my biggest question is about the light iron i bring in. Is there any separation i can do, so that i get more than the (I think) .06 per # for shred?
Thanks again to all and have a bare bright day!
