Hi from near Beeville, Texas.
Recycling cans has been an on-and-off hobby since I was knee high to a console television.
Nowadays, I'm a dad to 8 chilluns, and always looking for stuff out of place.

Socks under the couch cushions? Check.
Candy in the kids' beds? Check.
An old vise in the dumpster? That shouldn't be there.
Nor the old TV antenna, aluminum windows, TV, nor the two rolls of steel fencing.
So I've started piling up the cans, dumpster diving for more, and looking for bent nails and such around work.

Work is childcare: I'm a housepop at a children's home. We're usually doing some remodeling or replacing a water heater, etc. So bent nails, scrap copper and rusted out sewer pipes are plentiful enough. And the office is kind to put their empty aluminum cans out back for whomever will take them, which has been me for about a year now. I'm learning how to be considerate of my employer and balance my scrap fever (I'm gonna have to go to the dr if it don't get better) with a healthy sense of what boss man likely wants to save and not give to me. As you may have read in my first post, there is plenty of scrap-worthy stuff in the shop, and someone could (and someone probably has before) grab it and it would never be missed.

I'm grateful for a forum like this, because I need a lot more scrapping wisdom than I have. I'll be reading your how-to and your recommended tool list soon.

Thanks,
