I guess this makes me the new guy...

Hey you guys. I'm the new(est) guy here, and I just thought I'd say hello.

My name is Dan, and I'm really just getting started in scrapping. I've mostly done garbage night shopping and a few CL pickups, but I'm looking to get into it more. Specifically, I'm interested in branching into E-Scrap and things that I can sell, as opposed to just scrap value. I'm actually fairly interested in making this into a full time job, so any help along those lines would certainly be wecomed. I paid for our vacation this year with scrap profits, and am looking to get into bigger jobs, and eventually, making this my full-time employment.

As of now, I work in a hospital, and I make close to 40K/yr, so it's a lot to replace. I'm from PA, and should be buying a house (and hopefully a dog to go with it) with my wife and daughter soon.

That's all for now! Please ask any questions you might have; I'd be happy to elaborate on anything I can!

    Welcome Welcome!

Im in the same spot with scrapping on the side but wanting it to go full time =D Also with a newly purchased house and plans for a baby next year
Making around the same at my 45/wk job, but it comes with a 401k / ESOP / Health Insurance... scrapping cant get me those haha! Im just trying to keep building clientele at I do this on the side and if the day ever comes I will probably go to part time just to keep benefits and then go full time scrapping.

    Where was vacation!?

Yeah, that's true. My wife wants to keep working part-time (to keep her nursing license) so that may be an avenue for us to consider.

Vacation was a rental lodge in WV, with horses. Just to slow down and unwind. Completely disconnected for the entire week!

Building clientele is something of a work in progress for me. Curb shopping doesn't provide a lot of opportunities to do so, so I'm still thinking through that end of things with my brother!

ScrappyDoo, don't forget to make you up some nice looking business cards so you can network with everyone you know and meet. I picked up a load yesterday from a customer that has had one of my cards for over 2 years, and shortly he'll have a junk older ford pickup for me to haul away. Already have my plan of attack there.

Your job at the hospital should be a good source of ewaste. Old computers, medical equipment. Might be a good idea to find out who to talk to and how to get that stuff and break it down. Master that and then you have a niche. Then when you go full time you know who to ask and what to ask for at other hospitals.
