New (Probably Unlikely?) Scrapper in MN/WI/MI

    Hey everyone,

Just following suit and introducing myself. I've decided to pursue scrapping much more vigorously (i.e., for considerable income) after a good few finds the past few weeks, but more prominently after finding 5 Dell towers, upwards of 5 TVs, stoves/ovens, a bunch of microwaves, etc. in the garage of my apartment complex last night. I was in disbelief to hear that they've just been sitting there for years! Also, I can't BELIEVE how many people throw out (not even in the recycling bin, either) aluminum cans and the like in my area, where we're lucky enough to have the MI-10 deposit. I swear, if I put in full time hours to just collecting cans/bottles, I'd make more than I would in a typical full time job. Between that, and the success I've had on craigslist lately, I'm quickly realizing how much I like doing this.

I say "unlikely" because I'm actually getting my doctoral degree, so I suppose these two lines of interest don't often intersect. But, truthfully, the fact that I can do this on my own schedule makes graduate school SO much less stressful. Also, being that I'm studying clinical psychology, it's nice to spend time working with stuff that doesn't talk back. It's also rewarding to know that I'm taking care of the environment in light of the blatant disregard my neighbors have for recycling and the like.

Anyway, I've already found so much useful information on this site in the past few hours, I knew I had to sign up. My family thinks I'm weird for finding stuff like this fun, so it's nice to see a community of people who understand that it's fun to go treasure hunting AND get paid for it.

Finally, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I can't BELIEVE how much money I wasted when I was doing the 9-5 (and school). Between stuff like ShopKick, Swagbucks, MTurk, and scrapping, not only have I not paid for stuff like groceries in months (thanks to the aforementioned rewards programs), but if I didn't have any debt I'd have a ridiculous amount shelled away by now!
