Welcome, there are plenty of tips if you search the archives. All you should need is a bike/trailer and a decent proximity to a scrap yard.

Ride a bike and carry your tools with you. You probably only need a pair of sidecutters or pliers, adjustable spanner and two screwdrivers.
I put mine in a dry cat food bag with a seal.
Find your scrap and scrap it down so its manageable, take it home and finish scrapping it down.
Concentrate on 'non ferrous', Brass, Copper, Ali, etc.
Use a backpack to carry stuff, even while riding the bike its not too hard.
If it is, maybe put some on the bike and walk it all home.

I tried using a trailer, it was not easy!!!!!! But, the wheels were small dia and added a lot of resistance, meaning I had to put a lot of energy into it. So I went back to carrying it all in a backpack.

But, look at what you find the most of and how to scrap it down for the best $$$.

Welcome to the forum. Do as the others have suggested and you may want to get some inspiration from this thread: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/day-l...dventures.html

Cans my boy... cans. Ask everyone of your relatives to hold their aluminum cans and tin cans. Its a way to get them to do the work for you. Then when you visit you take the load off their hands. I'm 44 years old have a great salary but I STILL tell my relatives to hold their scrap for me. If they know you are trying hard to work and be honest they will probably bring it to you. Get on your Facebook page and tell your whole friend list you are collecting scrap. (Side note... the chicks love guys who are "scrapping" to save the environment. You can thank me later) Your goal is to turn nickels into dimes and dimes into dollars all through junk. I learned that motto from a very rich business owner. I haven't forgotten it.

If you want to not do so much work, build a motorized bike with a trailer.. I was able to use a mini bike and a garden cart because i was on private property in an apartment complex, but most states allow a motorized bike 49cc or less to be driven on the shoulder of streets.. hope this helps Aluminum is going up in value thanks to the aluminum f150's now.. consider collecting and smashing cans as well
