Looking to learn from all of you!

    Hello!

I am excited to be able to join this forum. I have been scrapping on the side for the past few years and am looking to make it more of a business for myself as my full-time job has not given me many hours lately. I would love to hear from those who have had experience and have learned through the ups and downs and have navigated the ins and outs of metal scrapping. I am looking forward to the challenge and excited to learn from everyone. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum , try searching items before you break them down ( should save you some time ) also tons of info on all the items we break down daily . If this forum was a book it would be the never ending story . Members add info everyday . Good luck on the scrapping and stay safe !

Welcome to the forum from the Dakota's. Do not expect many responses because Metalbestos said it as well as it has ever been said. Junkfreak was able to repeat it in fewer words. It would be hard to improve on their welcome.

Welcome to the forum, as with any endeavor, your returns/dividends will be proportional to the amount of effort/resources expended. Then one has to ask/evaluate/justify outcome, is it worth it? All depends on what each individual needs are. You can learn and keep learning here at SMF, you can also contribute as well, it's really up to you, you can take but also give back. Sometime that give back is just being part of a group of people with a common activity.

What do you mean by "searching items before breaking them down"?

Metalbestos is more than capable of speaking for himself, but I "think", he was saying sometimes items are worth more "as is" resold, re-purposed, or used as is. Once you tear it it a part it is scrap or at best just parts, now only having value of "pennies per pound". Think before you smash the $hit out of it!

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. That just happened to me ironically. Came across a commercial coin counter/sorter. It ended up working and now I have something I can sell for a couple hundred instead of a few bucks in scrap.
