    Thumbs up Denny,from Wisconsin. Pretty new to scrapin, but need extra cash and have LOTS of que

    I would like to know if there is any stainless steel inside a power steering pump off a 4 liter 4/4. truck also has aluminum heads which looks like stainless fuel injector tubes. I know there are several types of stainless and would like to learn how to tell them apart, as I see the price ranges anyware from .46 up to 1.89. If anyone out there knows of a cheap way to classify these it would be greatly appretiated.........This is the first forum iv ever joined, so please bare with me...THANKS MUCH, everyone

    At my yard, if a magnet sticks, it ain't stainless. Other than that, I am not too sure how to tell SS from white brass (that would be worth more money).

    White brass is softer by a lot. SS will be harder to nick with wire dykes.

    Take some time and learn to spark test metals. There are many videos that show how to identify metals by what kind of spark they give off when you hit them with a grinding wheel. I would post a link but work blocks youtube. Just go search spark testing metals, this was a big help when I first got started and I still use it today.
