    Namaste from India

    Namaste Guys,

This is Anand from India. We are importers and distributors of Scrap Metals in India. India, as you all may know, is one of world's largest importer of Scrap Metals and USA being one of largest exporter of Recyclable metals, makes us natural allies.

Indian scrap market is mainly dominated by middle east. This is mainly because of short transit time from Dubai, Haifa, Bandar Abbas etc. But recently we started this look west policy in which we are planning to import from USA.

But before venturing into the US Market for our needs, I want to do research on the US Scrap Market, and, hence, I am here.

If anyone of you have any questions on Indian Scrap market, then pls feel free to ask me in here.

    Best Wishes,
    Anand

Welcome to the forum. I think you will find most of our members are not exporters of material but there may be a few. What you can learn is the other end of the business. Primarily we gather materials and sell them to them to local yards. Many of us do specialize in certain areas so you can learn a lot about a segment of the market.

Do some reading in the different areas of the forum and see what we have to offer. Mike

Would love to here about your opinion on the international scrap metal market. Our prices have taken a dive big time. The available information indicates China and India have reduced purchases, Canada has an over load of surplus, and the market is down worldwide. Do you share this opinion or can you offer a positive perspective? I have limited experience with exporting, but have several contacts that could be valuable. If you want to buy from the U.S., now is the time. Maybe it will help our market rebound.

thanks for all your replies. Yes, I am interested to buy from USA but for that I need a stable supplier. Its really hard now a days to find any genuine supplier of scrap. There are a lot of ways by which we can get scammed. Can anyone advice which are the companies who are willing to export scraps to india?

Hello my friend, I am in Perth, Australia. What you want to do is look more closely at nations closer to you to cut the cost of transit. I am not in a position however to advise on who here is in the frame to trade with India.

Well what you would have to do in the beginning is have a company rep in the states, there are plenty of steady suppliers of scrap that are always looking for buyers with a steady supply of US dollars as cruel as that may sound that is the truth. You can find plenty of deals face to face with check book in hand. I think that would save you lots of time and waste full hours emailing back and forth. Nothing like dealing with a person face to face.

    Namaste Anand,

It makes sense to be less reliant on the Middle Eastern market. One would think that a certain share of the scrap metal coming from the region was generated by long drawn out conflict. That's a market that could run dry as things settle down.

I think you have the right idea. Do a superior job of researching a new market before venturing in. Study our geography, our transportation networks, our politics, our laws as they pertain to the environment & export, etc.

Most importantly ... study the companies that you might be dealing with. Research their history and in particular focus on their leadership. It might seem a bit sinister, but compile dossiers on the key players in the industry. Know them as well or better than they know themselves.

When you're ready, start networking at the industry conferences and build relationships. If you've done your homework you should already know half the people there anyway. They just haven't met you yet.

As 1956 noted: Make sure you're on firm ground and have plenty of financial backing before approaching anyone. It's a two way street. Both parties in a transaction need to consistently do their part to maintain a healthy business relationship.

Have you given any thought to establishing a yard here in the states ?

Perhaps test the waters before jumping in ?
