I'm not offended by anything said here. I normally leave the gun comments alone. I honestly can't imagine wanting to carry a gun for protection, simply because I don't feel that threatened and for that I am eternally grateful. Even in the worst neighbourhoods, carrying a gun is something a criminal would do, because it is illegal. That is where the choice is made. By allowing private citizens that choice, anyone can decide who should be armed, not those elected by votes.
My initial issue was with my shock that someone would even consider arming themselves to retrieve what? $20 worth of electronics? $200? To me it doesn't matter, if I questioned my safety I wouldn't go. I mentioned having a bat because I know there are crazies out there and if I encountered one I would defend myself. The likelihood of someone pulling a gun on me is very small and I have been led to believe that is because they are strictly controlled and prohibited by the society I live in. I'm not saying it's better or perfect. I just can't phathom needing or wanting to carry one publicly just as some of you can't imagine not having one. It's the mentality of the OP's question I don't understand.
I meant no offense and that is why I usually stay away from the topic here but had to comment this time, if only to, as Patriot said, get a better understanding of the other side of the issue.
