ok quickie success story for the morning: today is Garbage day on my block. One curbside vaccuum cleaner a block away and 30 minutes later I have $10.00 in my pocket no fuss, no muss.

Did I miss something? Did the CRT glass get smashed to make it fit in a container? I thought that was a big no-no? Should have sent them up to Ontario, unsmashed, they fetch .10-.15/lb stripped of whatever you want to take out.

I was under the impression he had the tubes in boxes or whatever. If their broken already, not even I will be able to help him out.

Apperantly Logan does not want to help you out on this one. Search his threads and find a post similar to the new nick name we just gave him. Take what you want from the thread.

Sadly, I didn't come up with the NuLogan gag.

I think it came from the fire on the California freeway thread, too.

By smashing them, you now have hazardous waste that is likely illegal to accumulate, and cannot be sent to a landfill.

You may be between a rock and a really hard place. Logan- any ideas? I know that you've done more research on CRTs than a lot of us have.

Yeah I mean if the tubes were whole I'd be able to help him take care of them properly but since he went and broke the glass, he just doomed himself. Only other way is if he had that crt cutting machine but I don't know of anyone who has $10k sitting around(I know I don't). At this point it'd cost him money to remove the tubes and depending upon the state, there might be a state charge to remove them.

    newbie

Garbage night tonight and I saw for the first time a smashed TV. Someone needs a face punch because here you can get paid for the whole TV! I was more pissed at the stupidity than the lost $$.

Any idea on anywhere he could go? He can't accumulate, can't legally (Or ethically) dump them, and can't send them to any recycling centers that I can think of. He's stumped me. I can't think of anything at all that he can do.

You and me both - he's stuck with em because I know NuLife won't take em that way and neither will Best Buy... wish I had that crt cutting machine to help this guy out.

Isn't he in violation of DEQ laws if he holds onto them for more than 90 days?

This can't be good- our resident CRT expert is stumped!

    It is, what it is.
He has created haz-mat and no one want's the mess.
the best thing now is to teach our friend that smashing tv's only leads to headaches and fee's/fines unless done at a business certified for doing just that.

I thought I had a good outlet for you guys on CRT's. Place I worked at for a couple summers processed them and recycled the glass. But after talking to them they have more lined up than they can use in the next few years.

That's funny because every time I talked to John about it, he said the facility in Dunkirk/Rochester won't take em broken. I haven't talked to them in awhile since they refused to answer more questions about their processing. Either way, even if they did take em broken, he'd have to call or talk with John Kinkaid and set up a contract because you can't just drop off or send tubes to them.

Appreciate you giving the OP the contact info. No matter what, it is going to cost him to do it legal. The is going to be a hard and expensive lesson for the OP.
