Electronic Engineer = expensive medical electronic scrap!

    Good evening,

I am new to this forum so take it easy on me! I am a field service engineer for a medical company. I've been in to the electronics field for 10+ years. I am only 27.. With that said I come across some very nice stuff from 99.9% pure copper waveguide, welding cables, to pcbs. My grandfather deals with scrap and my ex significant other's family owned a recycling and trucking company so I started to gain an interest.

I live in York,PA and am searching to find a reputable vendor that pays. I understand prices vary but what is a decent price to expect for pcbs? Some of the guys I work with claim they get $1-$2 per board. I am just looking for more info! Thanks!

Look up top at the tabs under "#1 Metal Recycling Forum" and click on "Scrap Buyers and Sellers." You are very near several buyers...

Electronic Engineer = everything you need to know. Work at a medical company = that is outstanding! SMF = All you ever wanted to know.

I always wanted to Visit York, PA. My ancestors came from England, built a mill there and were one of the families that helped establish the town in the 1600's. The mill is still there (long time ago closed) and so is many of my ancestors. It's on my list of many things to do. Welcome to the forum and I think you have a lot of reading to do, that's the easy part, utilize the search feature (top right of every page), also the similar threads tool (bottom of every thread). Post some pictures of your medical boards after you read some, there's a lot of hard working scrappers here and maybe even some electronic engineers too!

Thank you for the kind welcomes! Very friendly people unlike some forums.

Burt, That is awesome that you can trace back to your roots! When you come out this neck of the woods I recommend visiting Gettysburg, Lancaster, Baltimore, and Philadelphia if time allows! So much history.

My company is Varian Medical Systems. We are based out of Palo Alto, CA. Our headquarters are on Stanford's campus. Our factory is in Milpitas. Our education dept is in Las Vegas so I go every year for a few weeks. I've made several trips to San Diego and was all around the bay area. Not sure what part of Cali you're from.

Thank you for detailed info on your company, medical equipment is some of the E-waste that is the most profitable to deal with. I have some experience with it and have nothing but good returns with it. Will look forward to your post.

I'm 86 miles north of San Diego and it is one of my favorite "get away" destinations. I have been to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, and Baltimore several times. They are all three very good cities for a history "nerd" like myself. Yes I have done lots of work on my family name. There is a network of us and I'm the "American" connection. York is where the American connection started, with several families still there. As with most American families, with each new generation there was a westward migration. With my generation going about as far west as you can get, York always gets my attention.

Look out for gene sequencers. They have a nice block of Silver, or Gold, or Gold plated Silver in them.
