I wanted to bring these back for the new members. That way they will know who their reading about, and we can get to know them a little better.

You won't break the camera so put yourself here. And if you do, just scrap it.

I like that you brought back couple of Gustavus's threads, in another thread. Thanks, Mike

Bumping this thread for two reasons. First the threads Mechanic688 posted are valuable to new members as well as older members. Second because all three names mentioned belong in the SMF Hall of Fame in my opinion. We lost Mechanic688 and his wife wrote the forum to let us know. He was an excellent moderator and always provided links new members could read to answer their questions. Many of us just tell new members to read the old threads and he told them what threads to read. MikeD has been a cornerstone on the forum, offering his expertise, insight, and knowledge to new and veteran members alike. His perspective on escrap and life in general has been an asset to many members. Gustavus was a story teller who used scrap to make equipment he used in his scrapping adventures. He was very knowledgeable about scrap and many other subjects as well. Before he disappeared from the forum he was building a kaleidoscope from scrap and sharing it here.

Do not hesitate to read their old threads, they are entertaining and informative.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Well thank you. I will point that there a many more who have been notable contributors to the forum. For those who have read the descriptions of his major scrap dismantling projects Patroit76 has inspired and informed us all. He has even had a thread talking in depth into the tools used in those projects, especially the cutting torches.

We also had a regular who ran(perhaps owned) a cutting team in the St Louis area that cut up large item, including locomotive engines.

I really could go on forever thanking the many members whose input I have used and adjusted for my purposes but you would be better served reading the old threads looking for the many gems just waiting for you to pick them up.

I really do mis Mech because he could always locate the thread someone else was looking for but just couldn't recall where to find it.

    73, Mike
